I did an online class quite a while back about making essential oil blends in roller bottles (also known as rollerballs). The class really was just the basics – it’s a fairly basic topic – but it included just a little about what rollerballs are as well as:
- How to use rollerballs
- How to make rollerball blends
- Then some ideas for various blends toward the end.
The main thing is the essential oil blends. Blending is an art that can take some time and practice to perfect, and to be honest I’ve made my fair share of dodgy essential oil blends…
So I’m sharing the blends from that class here, in this post, because I didn’t have them on the powerpoint, and even if I did they’d have probably gone by too quickly for the attendees to write them all down.
But first, just in case you’re brand new to all of this…
What ARE Rollerballs?
Rollerball bottles are a glass bottle with a rollerball top on them, just like the beautiful cobalt blue rollerballs pictured below.
The rollers are made from either stainless steel (good choice), crystal or stone (good choice), or plastic (not such a good choice).
The reason that plastic isn’t such a good choice is just that the ‘feel’ isn’t the same. You don’t get the same smooth glide and it’s actually harder to tell how much oil you’re applying.
Glass roller bottles for essential oils come in all sorts of different colours.

What Sizes Do Rollerballs Come In?
These rollerball bottles come in a variety of sizes. The most common though are 10ml and 5ml bottles.
You can also get these cute little 1ml and 2ml roller bottles for sampling or they can be a great choice if you just need to take a little blend out with you for the day to help you get by!
Best Essential Oil Blends
The amounts of essential oils in the blends below are for a 10ml roller bottle. If you’re using a 5ml bottle, use half of each oil then top up with fractionated coconut oil.
If you’re making these blends for children, then you may need to dilute more depending age.
