So what is fascia blasting? To start with it’s a way to create changes in the fascia using simple tools and simple techniques, that result in greater flexibility, less pain and healthier tissues. Let me explain…
I stumbled across Fascia Blasters early in 2022 when good old Facebook kept putting the Ashley Black advertisements in my feed.
At first I ignored the ads as they were about the removal of cellulite. To be honest, I figured I’m too old to be worrying about cellulite… I have more serious issues to ponder, plus I didn’t think anything ‘manual’ would have a shit-show of making any change to the craters on my legs!
But eventually something grabbed my attention, and out of curiosity I clicked the link to see what these fasciablaster things were.
From memory I watched the video that the ad took me to, and then as I always do I went looking for more information as I was a little intrigued.
What I found was testimonials (mostly from women) attesting to amazing changes in not only cellulite, but body shape, pain, restriction and disease, and so it turns out that this fascia blasting craze is NOT only about cellulite…
First – What IS Fascia?
According to Hopkins Medicine “Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. The tissue does more than provide internal structure; fascia has nerves that make it almost as sensitive as skin. When stressed, it tightens up.”
Fascia is a type of connective tissue found in the human body. It wraps and supports the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs. Fascia acts like a layer of protection, and helps to keep things in place. It is an intricate web of collagen fibers that provide structural support for the entire body.
There are also four different types of fascia. Although they vary in type, all the fascia in your body is one huge web that runs through, and around every other part of your body.
It is all connected, and all one giant thing…
What is Fascia Blasting?
Fascia Blasting is performed using handheld tools (Fascia Blasters). These tools have ‘fingers’ that massage into the fascia (through the skin) to break down adhesions and scar tissue.
The tools are used over the skin with a simple rubbing motion. This helps to unblock tight muscles and stimulate circulation and movement.
Fascia Blasting works by breaking down fascial adhesions. These adhesions develop from poor posture, muscle tension, and exercise and breaking them down allows for better mobility and flexibility.
The Fascia tools can be used over most body parts, including the abdomen, neck, legs, arms, chest, back, and even the face and scalp. The massage of the fascia helps reduce pain, promote healing, and improve circulation.
It can also help to improve the look and texture of the skin and underlying tissues. This also helps to improve the appearance of cellulite.
Fascia Blasting helps restore the natural alignment of muscles and ligaments while providing relief to the discomfort associated with tight and restricted muscles. It can also help reduce inflammation, as well as reduce stress and anxiety. The technique can help improve range of motion and flexibility. It also reduces pain and soreness, allowing for an improved quality of life.
Fascia blasting is a relatively new and unique technique, but one that has become increasingly popular as people look for more natural and holistic approaches to health and wellness. It is safe and easy to use, with no major side effects and minimal discomfort.
You can do Fascia Blasting yourself at home as it’s really simple. Alternatively you might want the help of a trained professional. It can also work well in combination with other therapeutic treatments.
What Are the Benefits of Fascia Blasting?
Fascia blasting is a highly effective physical therapy technique that can benefit a wide range of patients and fitness enthusiasts. But what are the specific benefits? Let’s find out.
The first benefit that I was exposed to (via the testimonials of others) was the reduction in the appearance of cellulite. In fact fascia blasting can be incredibly effective at smoothing skin and creating a more attractive body shape. Ashley Black’s book about fascia explains how and why this works. In fact even though I first learned to work with fascia 25 years ago and have read a bit about it, Ashley’s book is the best explanation of fascia that I’ve ever come across. She knows what she’s talking about!

More Benefits of Fascia Blasting
One of the primary advantages of fascia blasting is that it, like other forms of massage, increases circulation. By breaking down scar tissue and adhesions, the movement of fluids throughout the body is improved. This can be particularly beneficial for athletes and help to reduce recovery time.
Another benefit of fascia blasting is the improvement of flexibility. Not only does it unlock trapped fluid, but also helps to liberate tight muscles. This can lead to improved mobility and overall strength. Additionally, as fascia blasting encourages blood flow, oxygen and nutrients are allowed to reach muscles and aid their development.
Fascia blasting can also aid in reducing pain. By breaking up the knots and adhesions, muscular tension can be alleviated, reducing some of the discomfort caused by those areas.
Finally, fascia blasting can also produce significant psychological benefits. By removing tightness and knots, the patient often experiences a sense of deep relaxation; feeling lighter, more energised and more mobile. All of these factors together help to improve one’s overall well-being.
Overall, fascia blasting is a beneficial physical therapy technique that provides a range of positive results. From increased circulation, improved flexibility and reduced pain, to psychological benefits, fascia blasting is certainly worth considering.
What to Expect When You Try Fascia Blasting?
Fascia blasting is basically a form of deep tissue massage that can help to break up the tough layers of fascia that cover our muscles, tendons and ligaments. This can allow for better movement and improved posture. When you try fascia blasting, there are several things you may experience.
Firstly, fascia blasting can sometimes be a bit painful initially as it penetrates the layers of tissue. However, the pain should not be unbearable and should subside as the fascia begins to loosen. Some people have reported immediate relief after their first session.
Many people experience bruising when they first begin fascia blasting also. The amount of bruising will vary from person to person, with some only experiencing mild bruising and others quite a lot! In fact the bruising can sometimes look quite shocking, and may cause concern for family and friends! But rest assured that this is temporary and is indicative of the amount of adhesion and inflammation in the body tissues.
Emotions Can Be Stored in the Fascia
Some people may also experience an emotional release from fascia blasting. There is often much emotion bound up in the fascia of the body, and so releasing the fascia CAN trigger the release that emotion. This, like the bruising, is a good thing and helps to facilitate healing.
Another sensation you may experience is increased flexibility. As the fascia becomes less tight, it allows your muscle fibers to stretch more easily and move more freely. This can result in better range of motion, less stiffness, and an overall feeling of improved mobility.
You may also feel a sense of relaxation after fascia blasting. This treatment helps to release tension in your muscles, which can lead to a greater sense of calm and wellbeing.
Results from fascia blasting can vary from person to person. It can take multiple sessions to fully eliminate tightness and improve movement. Ultimately, it is an effective treatment to help your muscles, tendons and ligaments to become more supple and work more efficiently.
What IS a Fascia Blaster?
A fascia blaster is a hand-held device usually made from plastic, and shaped like a comb, baseball bat, or paddle. These tools are specifically designed to provide a deep tissue massage, aimed at releasing your body’s fascia. This is a type of connective tissue that can become tight and restrict movement due to illness, injury, chronic pain, or over-exertion.
Through the use of soft-tissue manipulation, fascia blasting helps relieve muscle stiffness, tension, and soreness, while potentially improving your body’s mobility and flexibility.
The way the tool works is by manipulating your muscles and the fascia around them. Fascia blasters come in various shapes and sizes that easily fit into the contours of your body. A typical blast session can last up to 30 minutes. The user applies pressure to affected areas as they move the device in circular and/or linear motions. This helps to loosen any tightness in the fascia, relieving tension and allowing improved range of motion.
There are many different types of fascia blasters, with different levels of intensity to target specific areas of your body. For example, some of the more rigorous devices are meant to target larger areas, while other hand-held tools are made specifically to help with areas like the neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. The material of the device also plays an important role in its effectiveness and safety; ones made from metal or rubber are typically stronger and gentler than those crafted from plastic.
Overall, fascia blasting is a safe and effective way to help improve muscle range of motion, reduce pain and tension, and stimulate circulation. When used properly, it can be a great tool to maintain your body’s overall health and well-being.
How Can You Get Started with Fascia Blasting?
Fascia Blasting is quickly becoming a popular way to release tension and reduce pain throughout the body, but many people are unsure of how to get started. The key to success with this powerful technique is to understand the basics of how it works.
In order to begin fascia blasting, you’ll need to either purchase your own fascia blaster tools or book an appointment with either myself or a practitioner in your local area that can do fascia blasting treatments for you.
I would highly recommend buying your own tools. You can always have some treatments done for you if you prefer as it can be a bit of a workout fascia blasting yourself depending on what you’re trying to achieve, but I know from my personal experience, having these tools available to use after exercise or when I feel my body tightening up is invaluable.
Even just having the little face blaster and mini 2, or a kit like this one with one large claw tool and one small claw tool, will give you all you need to work on yourself when you need to.
I keep my personal set of fascia blasters in the shower, and hubby and I both use them regularly. They have made such a huge difference to my shoulders when nothing else seemed to work, that I am incredibly grateful to have found them. They really are worth having.
Generally, those who are new to fascia blasting should start slowly, allowing the body to get used to it. Additionally, it is important to leave enough space between sessions for bruising to subside.
