Pyroluria Treatment: An Update Two Years On

It’s time for a Pyroluria update! 🙂 It’s hard to believe it’s been over two years since I found out I have Pyrrole Disorder (also known as Pyroluria), and lately I’ve had people on my Youtube channel asking how it’s all going.

Well I’m super happy to report that it’s all going really well.

I’ve always considered myself lucky that by the time I was actually diagnosed, I had done a lot of work on my gut, and I’m certain that that’s the reason I felt an improvement in my Pyroluria supplements so quickly.

In fact I’m one hundred percent certain that the reason I noticed those fast results was because I’d been working for two years prior to my diagnosis, on healing my gut with the GAPs diet.

Read about the GAPS diet in this book by Dr Campbell-McBride, the creator of the GAPS diet. This is absolutely the BEST resource available and will help you understand WHY it this diet works to HEAL your gut.

So many people diagnosed with Pyroluria aren’t so lucky.

I’ve seen so many people in the Facebook groups I joined who go from the excitement of finally having an answer (I remember that relief), to despondency, despair, and mounting disappointment as they experience worsening symptoms once they start on supplements, with no obvious relief in sight.

This is why (I know) healing your gut is sooo important!…

Fortunately children often get results much faster once they’re on Pyroluria supplements. I’m guessing that’s because they haven’t had all the years of zinc deficiency that causes the intestinal permeability that messes up our digestive systems, our bodies and our minds.

Check out my zinc deficiency infographic below for common symptoms.

So back to me. How’s it all going two years on?

My Pyroluria Supplements Continue To Do Their Job For Me…

I’m so grateful to be writing this at this point in time. I’m happy to tell anyone who is interested, that things continue to improve for me. I can honestly say that my diagnosis with Pyrrole Disorder two years ago, and the resulting simple and relatively inexpensive treatment (the nutritional supplements that I take daily) was, and continues to be, a true blessing.

But things are not quite perfect – yet!

Sadly the truth is that things may never be perfect, but the changes, and the improvements that I’ve experienced over the past two years have been fantastic, and I’m super happy when I compare where I am now and the way I struggled in the past.

So here’s a quick rundown on what has changed for me:

  • My anxiety is about 80% better than it was two years ago
  • The almost constant feelings of fear have reduced – lots
  • I am able to talk to people with less of that ‘inner tension’
  • That overall feeling of ‘extreme inner tension’ has reduced considerably
  • The chronic diarrhea I had for decades is almost non-existent 🙂
  • I actually digest my food! (No more chewed up lettuce in the toilet…)
  • I have less abdominal pain and discomfort
  • Hypothyroid symptoms have reduced markedly
  • My brain works better
  • Fluid retention has reduced
  • The psoriasis on my scalp is much less
  • My hair and nails grow fast and strong
  • I get much less joint pain
  • My weight fluctuates less (more stable)
  • I don’t overeat as much as I used to
  • My relationship with food feels healthier
  • I can exercise again – and feel good after…

What Do I Hope Will Improve MORE?

  • Anxiety – I’m hoping that with time this might reduce more
  • Waking in the morning with a feeling of ‘dread’ or fear
  • Hormone levels (I’m pretty sure they’re still really low but haven’t been tested)
  • Eczema has become an issue of late (has been a minor nuisance in the past)
  • My weight – I’d like to drop some weight and hoping being able to exercise again will help
  • Joint pain – it is still there more than I’d like
  • Social awkwardness – it would be so nice to be able to socialise and have fun with other people without feeling that inner tension/discomfort/fear that is so familiar. This is a common symptom of Pyrrole disorder and has been my constant companion my whole life. While it’s a bit better than it was, it is still definitely there and it sucks. I dream of a day when I can actually relax in social situations. But until then, I am grateful that I like wine! It helps… 😉

P.S. Pyroluria supplements can be expensive. I buy most of mine from Iherb and Healthpost. Both have great service, great variety and cheap prices. I highly recommend them!

P.P.S. If you haven’t read my original post and watched the video that I made shortly after I was diagnosed with Pyrrole Disorder, you can find that here.

P.P.P.S. It’s now almost 2019 and almost five years since I found out I had Pyrrole Disorder. What’s happened since this post?  You can about it here.

Don’t keep me in suspense…so what was the cause of your depression, if not pyrrole disorder?

    1. Hi Cheryl. Mmmm I’m not sure I can explain enough here (I’ll get to writing about this one day soon), but basically an accident (or two) I had years ago caused chest compression and chest compression can cause depression. Release the chest compression and the depression was gone. True (evolving) story! More to come on this subject. 🙂
